CHILDREN SOLD FOR N5000 IN MAKURDI

It has been reported in Makurdi, the Benue State capital as the parents were involved in the sale of their children to human traffickers at the sum of N4000 or N5000 per ward.

A human trafficker, Sunday Agbo from Benue State revealed this when he got arrested by the Quick Response Group team of the Nigerian Army in Lokoja.

Female elephants are social animals that live in family groups, unlike males, and roam vast areas in the wild.

Experts say Mali’s mental and physical health has suffered due to her isolation.

Campaign group People for the Ethical ­Treatment of Animals said her only ­entertainment and relief from the blistering heat comes in the shape of a small pool.

A spokesman added: “Mali paces her small area incessantly or stands in one spot with her trunk to the ground, evidence of her boredom, loneliness, and frustration.

Left to me, i see this as punishment... If an animal can be bored, lonely and frustrated then what about it being a Human Being. I am so sure this will result to a psychological challenge.

NUPENG CALLS OFF STRIKE

NIGERIA Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, has suspended it nationwide strike called in solidarity with independent petroleum products marketers over unpaid subsidy claims among others.

The suspension was sequel to a decision reached by stakeholders at a meeting convened by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, and attended by officials of the the Ministry of Finance, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency, PPPRA, Jetties and Petroleum Tank Farm Owners Association, JEPTFON, and NUPENG, in Abuja, on Friday night.

NUPENG had on Friday began the indefinite strike over the payment of 2012 petroleum subsidy arrears, the state of the refineries, labour issues concerning SPDC, bad roads in the country, and restructuring of loans of JEPTFON members.

The communique said, “After noting the concerns expressed by the NUPENG and JEPTFON, government affirmed that the payment of petroleum subsidy for 2012 has commenced. The issuance of Sovereign Debt Notes (SDN) for verified and processed batches will be concluded within two weeks.”

NUPENG expressed its dissatisfaction on the state of the refineries in the country and requested to know whether the TAM of the refineries will commence as scheduled. “NNPC gave details of steps already being taken for the TAM andRehabilitation of the plants and assured the Trade Union that the TAM/Rehabilitation of the refineries would be done as planned. NNPC will ensure availability of crude to all the refineries”, the communique said.

RACISM IN CHURCH

It was to be their big day, but a Jackson couple says the church where they were planning to wed turned them away because of their race.
Now, the couple wants answers, and the church's pastor is questioning the mindset of some of members of his congregation who caused the problem in the first place.
They had set the date and printed and mailed out all the invitations, but the day before wedding bells were to ring for Charles and Te'Andrea Wilson, they say they got some bad news from the pastor.
"The church congregation had decided no black could be married at that church, and that if he went on to marry her, then they would vote him out the church," said Charles Wilson.
The Wilsons were trying to get married at the predominantly white First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs -- a church they attend regularly, but are not members of.
"He had people in the sanctuary that were pitching a fit about us being a black couple," said Te'Andrea Wilson. "I didn't like it at all, because I wasn't brought up to be racist. I was brought up to love and care for everybody."
The church's pastor, Dr. Stan Weatherford, says he was taken by surprise by what he calls a small minority against the black marriage at the church.
"This had never been done before here, so it was setting a new precedent, and there are those who reacted to that because of that," said Weatherford.
Weatherford went on and performed the wedding at a nearby church.
"I didn't want to have a controversy within the church, and I didn't want a controversy to affect the wedding of Charles and Te' Andrea. I wanted to make sure their wedding day was a special day," said Weatherford.
After months of planning, the newlyweds say they had no choice but to go through with the wedding at the new location, but they still can't understand why a church would ban their wedding because of race.
"I blame the First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs, I blame those members who knew and call themselves Christians and didn't stand up," said Charles Wilson.
Church officials say they welcome any race into their congregation. They now plan to hold internal meetings on how to move forward, should this situation occur again.
"I was prepared to go ahead and do the wedding here just like it was planned, and just like we agreed to," said Weatherford. "I was just looking for an opportunity to be able to address a need within our congregation and at the same time minister to them."

SCOTLAND LEGALIZES GAY MARRIAGE

Scotland is set to become the first part of the UK to introduce gay marriage after the SNP government announced plans to make the change.

Scottish ministers confirmed they would bring forward a bill on the issue.

Political leaders, equality groups welcomed the move, but it has been strongly opposed by the Catholic Church and Church of Scotland.

The announcement was made in the wake of a government consultation which produced a record 77,508 responses.

Same-sex couples in Scotland currently have the option to enter into civil partnerships and the Holyrood government has insisted no part of the religious community would be forced to hold same-sex weddings in churches.

Brazil goalkeeper out of Olympics

Brazil’s starting goalkeeper Rafael has been ruled out of the men’s Olympic squad after injuring his right elbow in a practice session just two days before the team’s opening match.

Brazil team doctors said exams Tuesday showed the injury will keep Rafael on the sidelines for up to three weeks, ending his hopes of playing in the Olympics. Brazil will begin its quest for its first Olympic gold medal in football against Egypt on Thursday at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

The 22-year-old Santos goalkeeper was injured Monday when he collided with a practice dummy as he reached for a high ball crossed into the penalty box.

He said he was able to continue practicing despite the initial pain but started to lose movement in the arm during the day, prompting doctors to conduct tests.

“It’s hard to try to explain why things like this happen,” Rafael said. “But I’d like to think that it all happens for a reason and I will overcome all of this in the end.”

Rafael, touted to be Brazil’s goalkeeper at the 2014 World Cup at home, broke his leg a few years ago just before making his professional debut with Santos, but eventually recovered to help lead the team to titles including the Brazilian Cup and the Copa Libertadores.

CBN REDUCES MONEY IN CIRCULATION

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Tuesday accused Deposit Money Banks of not lending to the economy.

This, it said, forced it to reduce the money in the banking system to minimise the upward movement in Monetary Policy Rate.

The CBN Governor, Mr. Lamido Sanusi, said this shortly after the Monetary Policy Committee meeting held at the apex bank’s headquarters in Abuja.

He said Tuesday’s decision was the most difficult in recent times owing to various choices confronting the committee.

He said rather than lend to the real economy, the banks had continued to take advantage of high yields on government securities to direct credit away from the core private sector.

The liquidity of banks, he noted, had provided an opportunity for speculative activity in the foreign exchange market.

Dr. John Evans Fifii Atta Mills (born 21 July 1944- died 24 July 2012) was the third President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana. He was inaugurated on 7 January 2009, having defeated the ruling party candidate Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2008 election. He was Vice-President from 1997 to 2001 under President Rawlings Jerry  and stood unsuccessfully in the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections as the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He died on 24 July 2012

RESPECT: A TWO WAY STREET

Being a radio presenter, or even going on air ain't easy at all. Some peeps out there just think it is BEANS. If you actually think that way, come try it na...Really it ain't easy at all. Am saying this because some of our Nigerian artistes think, because we are behind the Microphone we are therefore their slaves or FANS who will want to lick their feet (YUCK).

Some Nigerian artistes lack courtesy, instead of sending their materials to radio presenters, they rudely tell you to download their songs from a website, like we are begging them... its not by force to play your songs, at least you ain't paying their salary. And when you don't play it they tend to form like they are beefing you... like what the FUNK? lol...

You may be wondering, why i am saying all these, but a famous radio presenter in Abuja talked about how she feels about this on her Black Berry status.

Shedy Kay of Kiss FM also adds that she feels the artistes are getting ahead of themselves, as they should understand that if they do not play their music it won't be heard on radio. So the least they can do is appreciate their position in society and give radio presenters respect, as respect is reciprocal.
So sending their songs personally or going to the stations or sending it to O.A.P's directly via messages is respect.
Artistes take note, Radio Presenters are really not your fans.

OLYMPICS: LONDON PROSTITUTES CLEANED FROM THE STREETS

As the Olympics in London happens to be a big deal especially for sporty people and foreigners, sex workers are not finding it funny as they have been cleared from the streets around the stadium to make the area more presentable for the Games.

According to a study by a local Councillor, 80 brothels in the 18 months to March. 

"For the last two years we've seen a real increase in police activity in relation to sex work in the Olympic host boroughs," said Georgina Perry, who runs Open Doors, a government project supporting east London prostitutes.

"Some of the women who sell sex have experienced so many brothel closures that they are now working on the street, and that is a much less safe place," she told AFP.

"Street women are experiencing a lot of police requests for them to move on from the area. They're not wanted there during the Olympic Games."

The expected influx of two million visitors for the Olympics has led Prime Minister David Cameron to predict predicted a £13 billion ($20.2 billion, 16.3 billion euro) boost for the economy over the next four years.

But the sex trade looks likely to miss out on any benefits, campaigners say.

Imagine, prostitution is legal in Britain, but keeping a brothel is outlawed, as are other related activities such as curb-crawling.

SLAIN CHANNELS TV REPORTER WINS CNN POSTHUMOUS AWARD

The Cable News Network (CNN) on Sunday recognized the contributions of murdered Channels Television's reporter, Enenche Akogwu and Zakariya Isa of Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) to journalism in Africa.

Both Journalists died while covering the violence in Northern Nigeria and were both this year's recipients of the Free Press Africa Award, for their work in Nigeria.

Zakiriya, cameraman for the NTA, was killed in October 2011, and Enenche, a news reporter with Channels Television, was shot and killed, having covered the Kano bomb blast in January this year.

May their souls rest in peace.

Fayemi urged to rename EKITI STATE UNIVERSITY after Fajuyi

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has been urged to immortalise the late Col. Adekunle Fajuyi by renaming the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, after the deceased soldier.

A group known as Immortalise Colonel Adekunle Fajuyi said this in a letter to the governor.  

The letter was signed by the Coordinator of ICAF, Mr. Dimeji Daniels; and the Assistant Coordinator, Mr. John Osadeyi.

The ICAF suggested that the College of Education in Ikere-Ekiti was an alternative institution that could be named after Fajuyi, who was killed during the July 29, 1966 coup.  He was 40 years old then.

The group lamented that while the country had honoured some Nigerians who contributed little or nothing to the development of the nation, the first Military Governor of the old Western State, who sacrificed his life for the unity of the nation, had been left unrecognised.

Guess the trending thing now is that names of higher institutions should be changed to honor.a known compatriot.

Just like the change of University of Lagos to Moshood Abiola University, which resulted to strike and riot by the students. Hope this won't happen a second time by the students of Ekiti State University.

Olympics 2012 Soundtrack Albums Get Release Date

The music recorded for this year's London Olympic Games' opening and closing ceremonies will be released digitally. Albums containing songs from the two ceremonies will be available online right after the events.

"Isles of Wonder: Music for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games" will be released on July 28. "A Symphony of British Music: Music for the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games" will be available on August 12. Physical copies of "Isles of Wonder" will be made available on August 6.

Decca Records, which is owned by Universal Music, is handling the release of the albums. The label is doing it with support from the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

General manager of Universal Music Catalogue, Richard Hinkley, says that they are "delighted that we have been able to make the music, which is such an important part of the British heritage and a massive part of our London 2012 Olympic Games ceremonies, available the moment the ceremonies end."

"The speed of these historic releases will be truly record-breaking," added Dickon Stainer, the president of Decca Records.

The opening ceremony is expected to feature 10,000 performers with British electronic duo Underworld as the music director. Danny Boyle, the Games' artistic director, revealed in January that the opening ceremony took its name from the "Isles of Wonder" speech in Shakespeare's "The Tempest."

  Spice Girls are expected to make performances amongst others.

Randy and Jermaine Jackson Accused of Plotting to Be Katherine's Conservator

In an on-going battle over Michael Jackson's will, the estate of the late King of Pop fires back at Randy and Jermaine Jackson. The estate tells entertainment reporters that the two brothers plot a scheme to get their hands on MJ's money by allegedly trying to make an impression that their mother Katherine needs a conservator for her finances.




The claim that Katherine suffers 'a mini-stroke' reportedly is a part of a scheme to make the elder Jackson look weak so that she needs conservatorship.

Along with Janet Jackson, Tito Jackson and Rebbie Jackson, Randy and Jermaine questioned the authenticity of MJ's signature and accused the estate of causing their mother "a mini-stroke" through lies and manipulations. In response, the executors of MJ's estate claimed the brothers only want access to Katherine's fund which is more than $70,000 a month.

In his will, MJ excluded his five siblings and left all his fortune to his mother Katherine and his three children, Paris, Prince and Blanket. When the Jackson matriarch dies, the money will go to charity and the three kids.

Usher's Stepson Dies

He died after taken off life support on Saturday, July 21. Usher's stepson Kile Glover was taken off life support on Saturday, July 21. The 11-year-old son of Usher's ex-wife Tameka Foster suffered brain damage after a jet ski accident on July 7 and had shown no signs of recovery since.

DJ Greg Street, a family friend tweeted "Lil RG is an Angel now, Ryan, Tameka, Usher & the whole Glover Family we gotta make him proud!" confirming the death. Music producer Russell Simmons later tweeted, "I am sending out every prayer I got to Tameka, Ryan, Usher and their family ... #RIPKile."

Reports previously said that Tameka had to take Kile off the life support because her insurance will not be able to cover the high medical bills. (Really, Usher could have helped somehow na, or Where is the boy's DADDY). The devastated mother posted a photo of Kile with one of his younger brothers on Friday on Twitter but said nothing.

Kile was struck by a jet ski at Atlanta's Lake Lanier while he was riding an inner tube with a girl. Both of the children were rushed to Child's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston but Kile was declared brain dead at the hospital. Usher, although in a nasty separation from Tameka, reportedly was very devastated of Kile's condition. (still wondering why he didn't help financially)

ISRAELI LAW MAKER TEARS UP BIBLE...

 The MP Michael Ben Ari of the ultra-nationalist National Union opposition party was one of the Knesset members who received by mail on Monday [July 16] a copy of the “Book of Testaments”.

It contains the Jewish Bible, known to Christians as the Old Testament, and the New Testament, the Gospels and epistles of the Christian faith written after the time of Jesus.

A letter sent with the book from the “Bible Society in Israel” director Victor Kalisher said the new edition “sheds light on the Holy Scriptures and helps understand them. In addition, the references show the close correlation” between the two.

A picture published on the Zionist news website NRG-Maariv taken by Ben Ari’s aide shows the lawmaker tearing up the book.

“This despicable book galvanized the murder of millions of Jews during the Inquisition and during auto da fe instances”, he was quoted as saying in reference to the New Testament.


“This is an ugly missionary provocation by the church; this book and its senders should be in history’s trash can”, Ben Ari said on NRG-Maariv.

A parliamentary spokesman said that since it was a book and not dangerous materials that was sent, there was no reason to get involved in the lawmakers’ mail.

Kalisher was not immediately available for comment on Tuesday. However, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) was horrified by reports that a member of the Zionist parliament tore up a copy of the New Testament and posed for photographs with the destroyed bible.

ADL called on Knesset Member Michael Ben Ari to publicly apologize for tearing up a copy of the New Testament he had received after a publisher sent copies to all members of the Zionist Knesset.

A Zionist lawmaker tore up a copy of the New Testament to protest against the dissemination of the “despicable book”, which was sent to members of parliament by a Christian organisation.

Sofia Vergara is the highest earning woman on U.S television by Forbes who beat Kim Kardashian and also Eva Longoria by few million dollars. Vergara owes her $19 million earnings over the past year to her hit show "Modern Family" as well as numerous endorsements including Burger King and CoverGirl.

According to Forbes, the 40-year-old Colombian actress earns $7 million from television and $12 million from other projects. Her Hispanic roots help her to appeal to both English and Spanish audience and buyers. The magazine calls Vergara the biggest cross-over star since Desi Arnaz left the airwaves.

Compared to Kardashian, Vergara wins by a million dollar due to an interest in Hispanic market. Although Kardashian owns a clothing line on Shears, Vergara gets better deals on KMart with the $7 million advance. Vergara also found a media company, Latin WE, which earned $27 million in revenues last year.

Months after Beyonce Knowles showed off her newborn daughter Blue Ivy in a series of pictures, the face of the now 6-month-old baby is revealed. A sneaky fan managed to capture Queen Bey and her little girl during a recent shopping trip in New York City.

Beyonce took Ivy, who looked adorable with her wild curly hair, to Bergdorf Goodman. The new mom rocked a red mini dress, braided hair, red-flaming lipstick and big hoop earrings, while her little girl wore a white number and terra-cotta-colored pants.

HALLE BERRY RECOVERS FROM ON-SET ACCIDENT

  Halle Berry's representative has released a statement following an on-set accident, announcing that the actress is fine and that hospitalization was taken a precaution. Berry was filming her new thriller "The Hive" in Los Angeles on Tuesday, July 17 night around 10 P.M. when she injured her head.

According to TMZ, Berry "hit her head on the concrete after taking a nasty fall" while X17 reported that she "fell or was hit by a falling object, according to different sources on the set." She was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center by ambulance.

"Halle Berry suffered a minor head injury while shooting a fight sequence on the set of her film, 'The Hive'. She was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but she checked out healthy and was released. She'll continue production as planned," the rep said.

In the film, Berry plays an emergency call center operator who takes a call from a teenage girl (Abigail Breslin). who has been abducted and carried away in the trunk of a car. The kidnapping plays out in real time as Jordan and Casey work together to track down the killer.

MADONNA DISAPPOINTS HER AUSTRALIAN FANS

 
Madonna has just disappointed her fans Down Under, canceling the plan to extend her MDNA tour to Australia. The pop queen has skipped the country twice in her previous tours, Confession as well as Sticky and Sweet, that ended in 2006 and 2009 respectively, and she is not going to make it again this time.

The last time Madonna played in Australia was back in 1993. Her Australian fans eagerly waited for her first tour in the country in 20 years after her manager, Guy Oseary, said that Madonna needed to visit Australia for the next tour. "We are long overdue for a trip Down Under and apologize for that. It will happen," he said previously.
Live Nation, which promotes the MDNA concert series, confirmed the cancellation on Tuesday, July 17 but gave no reason. "Madonna's tour will end in South America in December as planned. That's all we can say," a spokesperson said.

Several stadiums in Sydney and Melbourne reportedly have been booked to accommodate her tour next year. Rumor has it, high ticket price and crowded concert market became the main factors to the cancellation.

NANS DECLARE 3 DAYS MOURNING ON CAMPUSES

Last weekend, the presidents of the 3 student unions in Ondo state were reported to have had an auto crash on Owo-Akure Road.

They were the presidents of the student unions of the Federal University of Technology. They died in a lone accident at Emure Ile Junction on the expressway on Friday night around 8pm according to the spokesman for the state police command, Aremu Adenitran who said it was due to over speeding.

They were returning to their institutions from Abuja where they had gone to witness the presentation of an award to the state governor, Olusegun Mimiko and some other eminent Nigerians by the National Association of Nigerian students.

Apparently, Vice President of External Affairs, Aremo Gbenga Oyebode unfortunately died yesterday, as a result of injuries sustained in the auto crash.

Therefore, The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS, Comrade Dauda Mohammed has hereby declared a 3 day of National mourning on all campuses as a mark of honour for this gallant Comrade.

He also appeals to colleagues particularly at the Adeyemi Colleage of Education to remain calm.

Apparently most higher institutions are on vacation.

Ibadan Poly students protest death of colleague, as Eruwa campus shut

The Management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, has ordered the immediate closure of its Eruwa Campus following a violent protest by students over the death one of their colleagues.

The students went on the rampage, yesterday, and destroyed the health centre of the institution, claiming that the death of the student was caused by negligence on the part of the medical personnel that treated him. But, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Soladoye Adewole dismissed the claims by the students.

He said: “One of our students died. He fell sick and was taken to our health centre. He was okay and even played football after his treatment. But, the sickness relapsed. Instead of bringing him to the health centre which opens every 24 hours, they took him to a private hospital, Awojobi Clinic, where  he died.”

He said it was surprising that students claimed he was given injection, adding that no injection was administered on him when he was in the institution’s health centre.

Adewole said the management had to close down the institution to prevent further destruction of property.
He explained that management saw itself as a guardian to all the students and there was no way the death of any of them would not be painful to them.

NELSON MANDELA TURNS 94

South Africans joined the world in celebrating Nelson Mandela as he turned 94 today, by participating in good deeds nationwide to honour his legacy, while nearly 14 million children sang Happy birthday for their anti-apartheid icon.

 In South Africa, citizens performed at least 67 minutes of public service on his birthday, a reference to the number of years he devoted to helping others. In Mandela's childhood village of Qunu, relatives, including children and grandchildren, gathered to mark his birthday and perform community service at the local health centres. Mandela was born on July 18, 1918 in a Thembu royal family in Mvezo village southeastern South Africa.

His family has organised a get together for a meal that will include a champagne toast -- which the ailing Mandela cannot partake in -- and his favorite dish of tripe, a meat delicacy. In addition to public service, South Africans held various activities to honour a man credited with helping bring together a nation deeply divided by apartheid.

About 14 million students sang "Happy Birthday" in unison nationwide before they started their lessons. World leaders also paid tribute to his legacy. US President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, described him as committed to democracy, saying his accomplishments changed South Africa and the world. "Nelson Mandela's personal story is one of unbreakable will, unwavering integrity, and abiding humility," Obama said in a statement.

Married Olympic couple can’t room together

Marriage has its ups and its downs, but the downs don’t usually include being unable to sleep together.
Sunday, Nick Green, chef de mission of the Australian Olympic Committee, told Australian Olympic shooters Russell and Lauryn Mark via email that they would not be able to room together in the Olympic Village during this month’s London Games.

The husband and wife Olympians are calling the mandate stupid and believe it was set off by Russell’s pro-sleeping pill stance and Lauryn’s provocative photo shoot in the latest issue of The Zoo, an Australian magazine geared towards the fellows.

FG embargoes cough syrup sales

Concerned over the rising cases of abuse of cough syrups, Federal Government has directed a restriction on the sale of codeine syrup to persons without doctor’s prescription, to check the indiscriminate and illicit consumption of the drug by addicts.

Director-General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii, who fielded questions from newsmen in Otukpo, Benue State, said government was constrained to place the embargo because of the high rate of abuse.

He said: “In recent time, we have been confronted with rising cases of young persons and women abusing some cough syrups, especially codeine, to get high, which is known for it’s efficacy in the treatment of cough.”

UNIZIK seeks NUC’s approval to admit more students

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has applied to the National Universities Commission, NUC, for approval to admit about 9,000 fresh students in the next academic session .

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Boniface Egboka, at a briefing described as pitiable, a situation where out of over 80,000 candidates who participated in the post-UTME and were qualified to gain admission, only about 3,700 would be admitted.

According to him, the institution had been following strictly the admission guidelines of 60:40 for science and arts courses as directed by the Federal Government, as well as the stipulated percentages for merit, catchment and disadvantaged areas, but insisted that there was need to give the youths who desire tertiary education more opportunities.

Using the faculties of medicine and law as examples, Egboka said out of the 2,000 candidates that scored up to 291 in the matriculation examination and were qualified to study medicine and surgery, only 100 would make it, while only 180 students would be admitted for law out of 3000 that scored above 280.

NIGERIAN WOMEN MOST UNFAITHFUL IN THE WORLD - DUREX

A survey conducted by condom manufacturer, Durex, in which 29,000 people in 36 countries were interviewed has ranked Nigerian women as the most unfaithful in the world.

According to the survey, Thailand men are the most unfaithful in the world,with 54 percent of them admitting to cheating on their spouses.

South Korea came in second with 34 percent, while Malaysia ranked number 3 with 33 percent.

The survey revealed that tthe top two countries with cheating women are Nigeria, with 62 percent, and Thailand, 59 percent.

Thirty-nine percent of Malaysian women also confessed to having betrayed their partners.

Russian women came 4th at 33 percent while Singaporeans are 5th at 19 percent.

An independent survey also conducted in Africa by AE affirms the fact that Nigeria with a population of over 160 million tops the chart for cheating women.

Corruption and a general distrust amongst citizens is largely responsible for the development.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW: ATTAH OF IGALA DIES AT 102

Dr. Aliyu Ocheja Obaje, Attah of Igala, Nigeria's longest reigning First Class traditional ruler, is dead, Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State announced yesterday.

The word Attah means 'Father' and the full title of the ruler is 'Attah Igala', meaning, the Father of Igalas (the Igala word for King is Onu).

In the statement by Governor Wada, the Kogi State Government said Dr. Obaje died yesterday at the age of 102.

Obaje, who ascended the throne on November 2, 1956 was the paramount ruler of Igala, the dominant ethnic group in Kogi State and was chairman of Kogi State Traditional Council until death.

Dr. Obaje was honoured with the national honour of Commander of the Federal Republic, CFR and was appointed a minister without Portfolio by the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello in the First Republic .

He was also a member of two Constitutional Conferences in London in the build-up to Nigeria's independence.

Well reports have it that when the Attah was still alive, he was known to be always leaving the country to change his blood; he was said to be really healthy.


According to sources, 7 people will be buried alive with the Attah, as that is their culture as reports have it. And yet again reports have it that the next Attah is close to 70 yrs old or thereabout.

THREE BODIES RECOVERED FROM THE IBADAN FLOOD

CONTRARY to the erroneous comments that no life was lost in last Saturday’s flooding in Ibadan, three bloated bodies Tuesday floated on Dandaru Dam.

They were discovered early in the morning at the dam close to the Department of Fisheries along the road that leads to the Cultural Centre, Ibadan.

One of the bodies was identified as Ojo Ijebo, a policeman from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad. Others are Sunkanmi Iyiola and Wole Iyiola. They were said to be from the same mother.

Meanwhile, different search parties have been dispatched to other parts of the city to find other missing bodies.

According to one of the relatives of two of the deceased, Mrs. Bunmi Qudus, they were five in the car when they were swept away by the raging flood.

She added that they had been searching for them since Sunday morning. When they could not find them, they reported at the police station.

“They left home around 10.30pm for a club. But, after sometime, we could not have any contact with any of them. We thought that they would in the morning, but, we did not see them only to be called some minutes that they have discovered their bodies”.

Many other relatives of those who are still missing came one after the other to identify the bodies recovered.
While some of them turned back saying it was not their own, others would just scream uncontrollably mentioning the name of the deceased.

Police uncover bomb factory in Kogi

An uncovered bomb factory was found in Okaito, a remote village in Okehi Local Government Area of the state by Kogi State Command of the Nigeria Police.

Parading one of the suspects in Lokoja, the state Police Commissioner, Muhammed Katsina, said his men were able to locate the bomb factory following the confession of the man who was arrested in connection with the Sunday’s explosion in Okene.

The commissioner explained that the police discovered that a  4-bedroom bungalow where the suspect ran to for refuge which served as a church and mosque was actually the base where bombs of various sizes are manufactured

Reports have it that the gang always started with Christian service, and minutes later changed to Islamic worship but unknown to the people of the area, while those “services” were going on, other members of the gang were busy assembling the bombs inside.

The police boss who declined to disclose the owner of the said building, said investigation was ongoing and warned property owners, particularly landlords, to examine properly those who they decide to rent their houses to as “anyone  found within this criminal conspiracy will be dealt with as a culprit.

Items recovered from the bomb factory site include 46 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), 15 capacitors, 15 fuses, three bottles of potassium chloride, five litres of acid and one electrical detonator.

Others are rolls of firing cables, 250m detonating cord, three remote controlled siren, GSM sets, nails of various sizes, ammunition, a motorcycle, Bibles, Quran  among other household  items.

It would be recalled that between December 2011 till date, four different bomb factories have been uncovered in Kogi State; one in Kabba on the western axis of the state, while the remaining three were located in Okene, Okehi and Adavi areas, all in the central area of the state.

Thousands displaced as LASG begins demolition of Makoko shanties

Thousands of residents of Makoko/Iwaya Waterfront community who had built shanties close to a powerline situated on the lagoon, lost their homes on Monday after a joint taskforce comprising policemen, soldiers and officials of Kick Against Indiscipline, demolished their structures.

It was learnt that the Lagos State Government had given the residents three-day notice, which lapsed on Sunday to quit the area.

In the notice dated July 12 and signed by Mr. Akin Tijani, Head of Operations, KAI on behalf of the Commissioner of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, the government said the shanties was not in tandem with its megacity project.

FG to borrow N633bn to fund 2013 deficit

Despite assurances by the Federal Government to reduce domestic borrowing, there are indications that it will raise N633.85bn from the bond market in 2013.

The Medium Term Expenditure Framework 2012 – 2014 obtained by one of our correspondents in Abuja on Monday showed that out of a proposed expenditure of N4.83tn in 2013, the Federal Government would resort to the domestic debt market to borrow N633.85bn.

Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, had at a forum raised the alarm over the nation’s domestic debt, which stood at $38.37bn (or N5.97tn) as at March 31.

She also disclosed that the Federal Government would establish a sinking fund aimed at reducing the volume of the domestic debt.

In an apparent contradiction of this intention, government, in the MTEF prepared by the Budget Office of the Federation, said it would run a deficit of N833.85bn in 2013 and 76.01 per cent of this would be funded through borrowing from the domestic debt market.

Other funds for the deficit are N50bn to be obtained from signature bonus and N150bn from the Stabilisation Fund/Excess Crude Account.

KATE HENSHAW CALLS PREZZO A TOP DOG

 For some Nigerians that graciously followed the ongoing Big Brother Africa Stargame competition, Goldie's romantic relationship with Kenyan housemate, Prezzo, caused many harsh reactions.
Goldie played roles of a housewife, mother, friend and a BIG BABY.

One of those who may have felt bad about Goldie being used by Prezzo to stay in the competition was Kate Henshaw.

Reports have it that, Not being able to hide her frustration and anger, Kate pointed out, "[I] really don't want to [talk about this] but jeeez (Jesus)! This BBA that has the Nigerian girl (Goldie) and this Kenyan guy (Prezzo) is pissing me off! [To cut the] long story short, the guy (Prezzo) is [a] top dog!"

EGYPT'S EX- PRESIDENT MUBARAK ORDERED BACK TO PRISON

Egypt's public prosecutor has ordered that former President Hosni Mubarak be returned to prison, saying that his health has improved.

Mubarak who is 84, was moved from prison to a hospital last month after reports of a deterioration in his health. he was said at the time to have had a series of strokes and to be on a life support machine. Reports that he was "clinically dead" were later denied.

In June, he was jailed for life for his role in the deaths of protesters.

RICK ROSS SUED FOR ALMOST $2 MILLION

Rapper Rick Ross, his sister Tawanda Roberts and his manager, Michael Lighty are being sued for almost $2 million in damages, by a united Kingdom promotional company over a canceled 2011 concert in Nigeria.

The lawsuit was filed on July 3 in the Supreme Court of New York, by Zons P.R, a UK- based company organized to do business in Nigeria.

Zons P.R. was hired on behalf of Star Lager beer, a brand affiliate of heinekan, which is  popular in Nigeria and West Africa.

The annual Star Mega jam has been taking place in Nigeria since 2000 and draws as many as 50,000 people to the concert, which is the largest of its kind in West Africa.

Rick Ross was supposed to headline the 2011 Mega Jam concert, which was to take place on December 17, 2011.

The lawsuit claims that Zons P.R. began to negotiate with Rick Ross' sister, Tawanda Roberts, who acts as his manager, on behalf of Rick Ross.

Zons P.R. deposited $87,500 into Rick Ross' account, with the agreement that Rick Ross would execute certain obligations(like promotional drops) prior to the concert, which he never produced.

The company also claims that Rick Ross began to raise questions about his security in Nigeria and finally, on November10, 2011 the rapper canceled the performance, citing "the violent events in Nigeria".

The lawsuit claims that Rick Ross was supposed the $87,500 deposit to Zons P.R., but failed to do so.

Zons P.R. says that when they realized they were not getting their deposit back, they attempted to renegotiate for a future performance, but the rapper refused to comply.
