Governor Wada’s Convoy In Auto Crash - ADC dies, Governor, critically injured

Idris Wada of Kogi State, was said to have been seriously injured in an auto crash on Friday, 28th of December. Reports said the governor’s Aide-de-Camp (ADC) and a driver in the convoy died instantly.

A statement signed by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jacob Edi, confirmed the report.

It said: “The governor survived the road mishap and is in stable condition.

“Sadly, however, the governor’s Aide de Camp (ADC), Idris Mohammed, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), died on the spot.

“The accident occurred Friday (yesterday) afternoon at Emi Woro Village, about 12 kilometres into the state capital, between Prime Polytechnic and Salem University, in Ajaokuta Council.

“The convoy was returning from an annual Igala Education Summit, which the governor declared open at the state university in Anyigba.”

Initial reports attributed the accident to a burst tyre.

Unconfirmed reports had it that Wada was taken to the Kogi State Hospital in Lokoja and was later flown to Abuja for further treatment.

But a source close to the government denied that he had been taken out of the state, saying the governor was well and even walked around after being treated.

The late Kaduna State Governor Patrick Yakowa died in an air crash near Okoroba, Bayelsa State, along with the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Gen. Andrew Owoeye Azazi, who was buried today in Yenagoa, the state capital.

"THE WORST DAY OF MY LIFE 27TH OF DEC, KOKO CONCERT - DENRELE EDUN

And a lot of people who went for the Koko Concert are so much regretting ever going for the show as theyall complained via twitter that they trekked their lives out.

One of those people who complained was our crazy TV host, Denrele Edun who was also present at the show.

The crazy dude had people worry about him as he was over my Timeline on twitter lamenting how his night was. He tweeted 'The worst day of my life! Dec 27th, Koko Concert. Despite the negativity, I managed to hold my head up and stay positive! Home now...Never again'.

Before he tweeted that he also made it known that he has completely deleted 27th of December from his memory.

From his tweets, it was obvious that he was not happy, as he told one of his fans that he is now home, crying...LOL

But really, I can imagine him with those big shoes of his trekking. Then just imagine ladies with their high heels trekking too am sure most of them would have trekked on bare feet.

One other crazy thing I heard was that they stood throughout the show, even those people that paid for VIP tickets...W--hhhhh---aaaaaa----tttttt!!! This is not meant to be called KOKO CONCERT but KOKO CRUSADE.

Out of those people who attended, the only persons who appreciated the show and said it was a success was DEEVEE, one of D'banj's producers.

Really, what a night for them...LOL...

Picture of a Prisoner Trapped In a Wall During Attempted Escape

Rafael Valadao must have under estimated the size of his body when his attempts to escape jail ended in humiliation – when he got stuck in a hole he helped smash in his cell wall.
Firefighters had to free the 16-stone (approx. 102kg) prisoner when his belly stopped him making his break for freedom.

To make matters worse thereby compounding his embarrassment, prison guards stood round laughing as the operation to release him swung into action.
Authorities were last night hunting for a thinner cell-mate who managed to escape first.
Two other inmates waiting behind Rafael also saw their hopes of freedom thwarted by the unexpected hitch in their escape bid.
The four hatched their escape plan at a jail in Ceres in the central Brazilian state of Goias.

Firefighters stepped in around 2am on Tuesday after the two inmates waiting their turn behind Rafael failed in various attempts to push him through the hole they had made with a metal bar.
He was later taken to hospital under police protection with a suspected broken rib.
A police spokesman said: “He was screaming with pain when help arrived.
“He seemed to have underestimated the size of his stomach.”

7-Day Warning Strike To Begin From Monday If…

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, has made good its threat to begin a nationwide strike from Monday – the seven day warning strike is over the non-payment of the Earned Allowances of the non-teaching staff in the universities as agreed in the 2009 FGN/SSANU agreement.

SSANU National President, Comrade Samson Ugwoke, has hinted that the strike is to begin across the country on Monday, November 10, if steps are not taken to resolve the issues at stake.

To this end, the union has written President Goodluck Jonathan and the Minister of Education, Professor Ruqquatu Rufai, stating that the strike will affect all Federal and state universities across the country. Copies of the letters were sent to the Minister of Labour, Chief Emeka Wogu and the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC).

In the letters, signed by Comrade Ugwoke and dated November 27, (to President Jonathan) and 30 November, (to Minister of Education), the union said the suspended strike would begin on December 10 if pragmatic steps were not taken to resolve the issues between 3 December and midnight of 10 December.

PICTURE OF DAVIDO WATCHING CHANNEL O AS A 7-YR OLD.

Who ever imagined that the 7-year old David Adeleke, who is in the picture above with a Channel O TV footage as background, will in a space of 13 years, be the one to be viewed all over the continent and parts of the world on the same Channel O he was watching as a kid? Not only that, he puts the icing on the cake by winning the Channel O Best Newcomer 2012 Award. Can you beat that?
If Davido could do it, then I say, why can’t you? Today may not look all rosy and glamorous but with your dreams and aspiration coupled with hard work and dedication, you can get to the top.

Nigeria to Get a Brand New City as Part of 100th Anniversary of Amalgamation

The Federal Executive Council (FEC), on Wednesday, approved a framework for the construction of a new city to mark the centenary celebration of the 1914 amalgamation of northern and southern Nigeria.

The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, while briefing State House correspondents after the FEC meeting which lasted for about seven hours, revealed that the city would be built in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as a memorial to the amalgamation and a source of pride to generations of Nigerians.

The amalgamation would be 100 years old in 2014 and President Goodluck Jonathan has already indicated that it would be celebrated in a big way.

Joined by his counterparts, including Dr Akinwunmi Adesina (Agriculture); Senator Bala Mohammed (FCT) and Senator Umar Idris (Transport), Labaran also revealed that the city, which is not expected to be completed by 2014, would be wholly funded by the private sector.

Maku then pointed out that government’s involvement in it would only be in the area of providing the site, adding that the building of the new city would be an opportunity to provide more infrastructure in the country.

Here are 11 things you didn't know about twin pregnancies

If you are expecting twins and don't know what to expect, then this is for you. Many women pregnant with twins have no idea what to expect, but that doesn't mean they -- and you -- can't learn. So here is some information from different medical experts from the United States to help you understand what's happening when you're expecting twins.

No. 1: You are more likely to become pregnant with twins naturally when you are in your 30s and 40s.

We all hear that the older we get, the harder it is to conceive, but advancing age may actually increase the likelihood of a twin pregnancy. Once you are 25 or into your 30s and 40s, ovulatory cycles are not regular anymore. If you are not regular and do ovulate, you could be ovulating two follicles at the same time.

No. 2: If you have two buns in the oven, you may need extra folic acid.

Women pregnant with twins may need more folic acid to help stave off birth defects.1 milligram of folic acid per day for twin pregnancies and 0.4 milligrams for singleton pregnancies are recommended. Folic acid is known to reduce risk of neural tube birth defects such as spina bifida.

No. 3: Women pregnant with twins clock in more time at the obstetrician.

Twin pregnancies require more monitoring than single pregnancies . Frequent ultrasounds for growth in twin pregnancies are likely to be done, compared with one anatomy scan and one growth scan in a singleton pregnancy.
But along with additional testing comes risk. For example, the chance of miscarriage after amniocentesis is higher in twin pregnancies. The mother is being stuck twice, so if the risk of miscarriage is one of 1,000 in singleton pregnancies, it would increase it to one in 500 for twins.

No. 4: Morning sickness may be worse with twin pregnancies.

One of the things that is postulated as causing morning sickness is high levels of human chorionic gonadotropin, and we know that levels of this hormone are higher in twin pregnancies, so women carrying twins have a higher incidence of nausea and vomiting in the first trimester. Most morning sickness abates within 12 to 14 weeks of pregnancy -- even in twin pregnancies.
That's not all, moms pregnant with twins complain of more back pain, sleeping difficulties, and heartburn than moms who are carrying one child. Moms pregnant with twins also have a higher rate of maternal anemia and a higher rate of postpartum hemorrhage (bleeding) after delivery.

No. 5: Spotting may be more common during twin pregnancies.

When you spot in the first trimester, you could be undergoing a miscarriage, and miscarriages are more common in mothers of twins, triplets, and quadruplets -- so we see more spotting in first trimester with multiples.
But a little spotting is no reason to hit the panic button even in twin pregnancies. A little spotting in the absence of cramps is reassuring, but when you are cramping, passing clots, and actively bleeding, that is a sign that's something is happening and you should seek medical advice.

No. 6: You don't feel the babies kicking any earlier with twin pregnancies.

Generally when you are pregnant with twins, fetal movements become more noticeable at weeks 18 through 20 of pregnancy, and the same is true in singleton pregnancies. When a woman begins to feel fetal movements actually depends on whether she has been pregnant before. If you have been pregnant before, you know what fetal movement is, but if you are pregnant for the first time, you really can't distinguish the movement from gastrointestinal activity.

No. 7: Moms pregnant with twins may gain more weight than moms carrying one child.

With twins, mothers gain more weight as there are two babies, two placentas, and more amniotic fluid. You also need more calories for twin pregnancies."
Still, there is not a well-established formula for weight gain during twin pregnancies. The average weight gain is 25 pounds for singleton pregnancy and 30-35 pounds for twins. We don't want moms pregnant with twins to gain more than 40 [pounds] or less than 15 pounds.
The Institute of Medicine's provisional guidelines for weight gain in women expecting twins say:
  • Women of normal weight should aim to gain 37-54 pounds
  • Overweight women should aim to gain 31-50 pounds
  • Obese women should aim to gain 25-42 pounds
Exactly how much weight should you gain? The IOM recommends that you talk to your health care provider about that, because every pregnancy is unique.

No. 8: Risk of developing gestational diabetes is higher in twin pregnancies.

The gestational diabetes risk is higher in twin pregnancy. That said, the biggest risk of gestational diabetes is having larger babies and requiring a C-section delivery.
While gestational diabetes is more common, the morbidity associated with it is less common because twin babies are not big babies.
Still, moms who develop gestational diabetes during pregnancy are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes later in life.

No. 9: Risk of preeclampsia during pregnancy is higher in twin pregnancies.

People really don't know what causes preeclampsia to start, but we know it occurs more frequently in twin pregnancies. Preeclampsia is marked by high blood pressure, protein in the urine, and sometimes swelling in the feet, legs, and hands. It is the precursor to the more serious, potentially fatal eclampsia.

No. 10: Labor (and delivery) may come early with twin pregnancies.

Most moms carrying twins go into labor at 36 to 37 weeks, as opposed to 40 in a single pregnancy, and some may go even earlier. Generally, if the twins are born after 34 weeks, there should not be a major concern, but a premature baby is still a premature baby. Twins are at higher risk of preterm labor and delivery and have higher degree of respiratory issues. As a result of being born too early, twins may be born at low birth weights, and such babies tend to have more health problems than babies born weighing more than 5.5 pounds.
Unfortunately, there is no evidence that bed rest alone prevents preterm labor or delivery in twin pregnancies, and the use of agents to stop preterm labor have not been proven to be effective either. Stopping premature labor is challenging in multiple gestations.

No. 11: Cesarean section deliveries may be more common in twin pregnancies.

The likelihood of having a C-section is absolutely higher in twin pregnancies. There is also a higher incidence of the baby being in breech position among twins than singletons. When the baby is in a breech position, a C-section delivery is usually required.

Nigerian billionaire is richer than Oprah

Wow...Nigerian businesswoman Folorunsho Alakija who worths at least $3.3bn is $500m richer than Oprah, whose wealth was estimated at $2.7b in September.

Folorunsho Alakija, 61, is the founder and owner of Famfa Oil, a Nigerian oil company which owns a 60 percent working interest in OML 127 that produces about 200,000 barrels a day.

In May 1993, Alakija applied for an allocation of an Oil Prospecting License (OPL). The license to explore for oil on a 617,000 acre block – (now referred to as OPL 216) was granted to Alakija’s company, Famfa Limited.

JAIYE ON MY MIND - STELLA DAMASUS ABODERIN

Yesterday, 3rd of December happened to be the 8th year of the death of Stella Damasus' husband, Jaiye Aboderin. She wrote on her blackberry status and on her blog how much she has missed her husband and father of her two girls. Jaiye passed away on the 3rd of December 2004 while playing basketball... may his soul continue to rest in peace.

Read the piece she wrote:

JAIYE ON MY MIND

I sat in my bedroom the whole of Sunday the 2nd of December feeling very funny and low. After asking myself what the trigger was, I remembered that I always get like that a day to the 3rd of December every year for the past 8 years.

I had the opportunity and rare privilege of being the wife and partner of the most wonderful, loving, industrious, God fearing and kind man. Life could not have been better than that because I was living every woman’s dream.

The best of everything was at my disposal whether I lifted a finger to work or not. We had our ups and downs as usual but making up and resolving our issues, was magical. I was blessed with the best husband and father and his name is JAIYE ABODERIN. He was the love of my life and the one who did everything humanly possible to protect his family. Even in the face of all sorts of problems, all sorts of accusations, all sorts of misconceptions, he was one who understood the true meaning of for better or worse.

Jaiye passed away on the 3rd of December 2004 at a time our dreams and projects were about to kick off. I was 26 with two lovely children and eight thousand naira in my account. Let me not sound like a broken record because I have told this story several times.

The one thing I would like to say is that, his life taught me unconditional love and his death taught me kindness. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to share his air, his thoughts, dreams, hopes, love, friendship and much more.

I have since discovered that if a marriage is not based on trust and friendship but most importantly, the love of God, then I am sorry it will never stand the test of time. I have been there and I know how things can fail right before your eyes without those elements.

So, today I celebrate a man of the people,

I celebrate a man who stood by his family through thick and thin,

I celebrate a man who touched and saved lives,

I celebrate a man who was a hero to all who knew him,

I celebrate a man who was a father to all who knew him,

I celebrate a man who loved unconditionally,

I celebrate a man who believed in sharing and caring,

I celebrate a man who put a smile on people’s faces,

I celebrate a man who was so full of life,

I celebrate a man who brought people together and created friendships even in death,

I celebrate a man who was a bigger star in his own right than most of us,

I celebrate a man who celebrated people without holding back

and I celebrate a man who will always be celebrated.

Rest in peace OBIM, the girls will always remember you and pray for your soul to rest in God’s arms. You will always be in my heart and the love I have for you will never ever die.

It has been eight years but it feels like only yesterday. Instead of crying I choose to celebrate you.

To those of you reading this, remember to give God glory for the life well spent no matter how short. He was a very happy man who hated gloomy faces. As you remember him please wear a smile and pray to God. He will love that very much.

God bless you all, now and always.

A QUOTE I GOT FROM JAIYE: No matter how many times you fall, as long as you are alive, you still have a chance to get up and try again.

Madrid Temporarily Terminates Essien’s Loan Spell

Ghanian international, Michael Essien has had his loan spell at Real Madrid cut short albeit temporarily, to return to Chelsea for treatment on a presistent injury.

The 29-year-old who was mostly used as a substitute, joined ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho at the Bernabeu at the beginning of the season, but the Ghanaian has been on the sidelines since November 11.

Essien’s return to west London is the latest effort aimed at improving his rehabilitation process.

Real Madrid’s assistant manager, Aitor Karanka, revealed that Essien’s inability to respond to rehab in Spain is the principal reason for his return to Stamford Bridge.

Ojukwu names mystery Hausa daughter in Will -Bianca takes Enugu, Abuja houses, all money -Son’s name missing

THE Will of the late Ikemba Nnewi, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, was finally read on Friday at the Enugu High Court, with his widow, Bianca, getting the lion’s share.

It was like a drama of sort as the Will, which was read by the Chief  Registrar of  Enugu State High Court, Mr. Dennis Ekoh, threw up some surprises as the late warlord identified an unknown Hausa woman, Tenny Harman, as number one among his children.

There were to be more surprises as the name of Sylvester Ojukwu was omitted from the list endorsed by Ojukwu himself as his children. Emeka Ojukwu (Jnr) only got a property in Umudim Nnewi, Ojukwu’s hometown, as his entitlement.
After appointing Bianca; the late Igwe of Oraukwu, Emeka Ojukwu and James Chukwuneme as trustees and executors of the Will, the names of the children was next; and the late Ikemba stated that only the eight listed, and no other person, should be regarded as his children.

The eight children listed were Tenny Harman, Emeka Ojukwu, Mmegha, Okigbo, Ebele, Chineme, Afam and Nwachukwu.

The Nigerian Ambassador to Spain would be all smiles later as the Will awarded her Ojukwu’s Enugu mansion, ‘Casabianca’, located at No: 7 Forest Crescent, GRA, which was  named after her.
Bianca also got two properties located at plot 20 Jabi Abuja, with Certificate of Occupancy number 4405, as well as another property located at Kuje, Abuja.

Ojukwu also said that Bianca should replace him as the trustee in the family company, Ojukwu Transport Limited, while he also willed to her two hectares of land at Umuezeani Umudim Nnewi.
He, however, added that if she remarried, the land should be taken away from her.

The late Igbo leader also willed to his wife all personal effects, money and cars for her upkeep and that of her children.

Ojukwu’s strange daughter, Tenny, was allotted the Jubilee Hotels, Zaria; but when the codicil was read, it was observed that the hotel had been sold. Thus, she is to receive the proceeds from the sale.

For the former commissioner in Anambra State, Emeka Ojukwu, it was not a fair deal as he got only a house in Umudim Nnewi.

The late warlord further willed a hectare of land each to all his daughters, but directed that his Nnewi property is “to remain a binding legacy to us for generations to come.”

Forbes World’s Highest Paid Musicians For 2012

Forbes has released its list of highest-paid musicians and unsurprisingly, the top spot this year is not held by a popstar or rock band, but a doctor – of beats. Aftermath Records CEO, rapper and beat maker, Dr. Dre earned a cool $110 million between May 2011 and May 2012 to earn that enviable position.

However, most of that paycheck had nothing to do with the production of music, though as he earned the vast majority of it from his über-trendy headphone line, Beats by Dre.

Others leading the pack: Roger Waters (a founding member of Pink Floyd) with $88 million, Elton John with $80 million, U2 with $78 million and Take That with $69 million. Now that’s a top 5 with just one American and none of them’s currently in the top 10 of the Billboard singles chart.

Bonjovi comes in at 6th with $60 million. Britney Spears, the highest-earning woman, comes in at No. 7 with $58 million. Taylor Swift tied Paul McCartney for the eighth slot. Both raked in $57 million over the course of the year.

Other hotshots: Justin Bieber rounds out the top 10 with $55 million, Rihanna lands at No. 12 ($53 million) and is followed by Lady Gaga ($52 million), Katy Perry and Diddy tied for 15th ($45 million) and Beyonce out-earned husband Jay-Z ($40 million and $38 million). Adele and Kanye West hold the joint spot at No. 22 with $35 million.

Energy drinks to avoid and embrace

Health and nutrition expert Aimee Raupp advises on which energy drinks we should avoid and which to embrace.

Aimee points out that that FDA and the Federal government have raised real concerns about the health effects of these energy drinks. In fact, energy drinks are not FDA regulated because their sold as nutritional supplements, not food so that’s why they can exceed the FDA-mandated 71 milligrams of caffeine.

Which beverages should we stay away from? Aimee says to avoid the following energy drinks at all costs. These are the most popularly sold energy drinks in the United States:
  • Red bull
  • Monster
  • Rockstar
  • Full Throttle
  • Sobe No Fear
  • Amp
These drinks are filled with unhealthy additives, artificial ingredients, sugar, and caffeine. And the reaction to consuming these beverages can be  alarming – after consuming one of these, your body will go into overdrive – pupils start to dilate, heart rate increases, and all you want to do is move, move, move (and not in a good way!). These drinks can also cause a lack of mental focus and increased hunger.

On the flip side, there are a number of “good” energy drinks that provide positive health benefits, and Aimee recommends the following:
  • Cellnique:
  • Sambazon:
  • Steaz:
  • Scheckter’s Organic Energy
Of this group, Aimee’s top pick is the Cellnique because it’s the lowest in added sugars and the ingredient list here is quite clean and super naturally energizing. Regardless, all of these choices are organic and contain energizing sources like acai, yerba mate and guarana.

Ex-President George H.W. Bush in Texas hospital

Former President George H.W. Bush was in a Houston hospital Thursday for continuing treatment of a lingering cough.

Bush, 88, has been in and out of the hospital recently for complications resulting from bronchitis, Methodist Hospital said in a brief statement.

The hospital and Bush's spokesman in Houston, Jim McGrath, described Bush as in stable condition and said they expected the former president to be released by the weekend. He's been under hospital care for nearly a week.

Bush's son, former President George W. Bush, and his wife, former first lady Laura Bush, slipped in to see him Sunday. They now live in Dallas.

The elder Bush was vice president under Ronald Reagan from 1980 to 1988, when he was elected president. He lost his re-election bid to Bill Clinton four years later.
Bush and his wife, Barbara, now make their winter home in Houston and spend summers in Kennebunkport, Maine.

Funke Akindele Joins Banky W, Toolz As MTV Base VJ Search Judge...hmmm

Multiple award winning Nollywood actress, writer, producer and director, Funke Akindele has been revealed as the final judge for the MTV Base VJ Search – Nigeria.

Akindele, will join previously announced judges, Banky W, Toolz and Tim Horwood to select the brand new VJ. The lucky winner of the talent search will become one of the key faces of the music network, hosting programmes on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and on the MTV Base block on STV.

Well i don't see why Funke and Banky should be part of the judges considering what they are known for. MTV Base VJ Search isn't a competition for music or acting...wonder why they couldn't get veteran TV presenters as the judges...well wetin be my concern sef

Meanwhile hundreds of Nigerian youths have already sent in their online auditions while thousands more are expected to turn up at the MTV Base VJ Search auditions, which will take place on Saturday December 1 at Fantasy Land, Lagos. Superstars Ice Prince, Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy will also be present at the auditions to lend their support to contestants.
The winner of the MTV Base VJ Search Nigeria will follow in the footsteps of veteran MTV Base VJ Cynthia “C-Von” Okpala who triupmphed in MTV Base’s first ever Nigerian VJ search in 2007.

Nigerian youth who are interested are advised to visit www.mtvbase.com for more information. [MTV]
